2021 was an action-packed year for us, and since we are reaching our second year distributing Atom Incubators, adding Riester and VeinSight to our portfolio of products, we thought a great way to celebrate would be to look back over the events of the past year and disclose a few exciting updates we have in store for 2022.
A look back over 2020 and 2021
We became the sole UK distributor for Atom Incubators in 2020
We were really proud to announce that we would be offering Atom products from 2020. Atom is a global company with a philosophy of bringing tenderness with technology – To save a tiny baby’s life. They produce a range of products to support babies who require incubation at birth, including infant warmers, incubators, testing equipment, and therapeutic equipment.
Our Managing Director, Richard Walters, said of the new partnership: “I am extremely proud to announce that we are now the sole distributor of Atom Incubators and associated products in England, Scotland and Wales and we very much look forward to working with Atom Medical.”
The introduction of the Atom Products, Riester and VeinSight ranges to our portfolio of products is an opportunity for us to offer unrivalled products with a service to boot. If you would like to discuss any of the items in our range or to request a demonstration please get in touch and we’ll make the necessary arrangements for you. In the meantime, you can find our complete product range here on our online catalogue.
We exhibited at the EBME Expo
We were delighted to be able to present some of our incredible products at the 2021 EBME Expo (electronic and biomedical engineering). The event was held at Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes this year after being started in 2009 as a way of improving healthcare through the sharing and application of knowledge from experienced professionals involved in the management of healthcare technology.
The expo provided workshop opportunities, vendor-led sessions and hands-on training, as well as exhibitions from medical companies from around the globe. While we were there, we showcased our extensive range of monitoring consumables, Atom incubators and a selection of products from Rudolf Riester GmbH.
It was great for our sales team, including Richard Walters, David Bounds and Richard Rhodes, to be able to get out and meet customers and prospects face to face after such a long time. It was also the first time we were able to show off a selection of our brand new demonstrator Atom incubators, which received a phenomenal amount of interest.
We exhibited at the Acute and General Medicine Conference
Our sales team managed to get out again and attended the Acute and General Medicine Conference at London excel. At the event, we showed a selection of our product range, including ECG cables, SpO2 Temperature Probes, NIBP & IBP products, Patient Safety Mitts, Rudolf Riester GmbH Patient Assessment Devices, VeinSight Vein Finding Devices and our own range of Medical Labelling.
We held our Global Awards at the end of the year
Just before Christmas, we gathered our UK team and joined the Italian office of Atom on Skype to host a global awards event for Atom Medical. The event was set up to celebrate the top distributor of Atom Medical products, which we were honoured to achieve, particularly in the midst of a pandemic. However, the most important part of becoming Atom’s top distributor was the fact we have been able to bring their philosophy to the UK and help save the lives of tiny babies in this country.
Our Managing Director, Richard Walters, received the award, alongside Julie Rhodes, our Marketing Director, and David Bounds, our Sales Director. The award was presented by Angela Haken on behalf of Atom in both Italy and Japan.

Higher than market average conversion to sale rate of our Atom Incubator demos last year.
Over the past year, a high percentage of demonstrations we ran with potential clients converted into sales. While we appreciate that this statistic might not last forever, it was a great achievement for us in 2021 and shows the quality of the products and the overall support package we offer.
We passed our ISO Audit
Every year we are audited by an independent organisation to ensure we meet the required standards for the quality, safety, and efficiency of our products, services, and systems. We were delighted that our Annual Surveillance Audit Report by QMS International – one of the UK’s leading ISO certification bodies – once again certified our Management Systems and specifically commended us on excellent practice in a number of areas.
Heading into 2022…
We’re opening our Atom Medical training facility in Barnsley
Last summer, we picked up the keys to our new premises just on the outskirts of Barnsley, where, on completion of an extensive fit out, we’ll be opening our very own training centre and storage facility. Our focus with the new training centre is to ensure that our customer service levels are always immaculate and that our whole team understands our products and has the relevant training to be able to do so as well as offering our customers the option to attend in-depth, off-site, technical training in a purpose-built facility.
We really look forward to being able to share the launch of this new centre with our team, our clients, and on social media – so be sure to follow us to receive regular updates!
Conclusion
Walters Medical is much more than just a medical supplies company. Our aim is to provide a smooth, transparent and seamless service experience for all our customers, whether they are the largest medical organisations or individual healthcare professionals. While the past couple of years have been turbulent for all of us, we couldn’t be prouder of all the things we’ve achieved and are looking forward to 2022 with refreshed enthusiasm and plenty to be excited about.
